You’ve heard the stories: a large Internet company exposing all three billion of its customer accounts; a major hotel chain compromising five hundred million customer records; and one of the big-three credit reporting agencies exposing more than 143 million records, leading to a 25 percent loss in value and a $439 million hit. At the time, all of these companies had security mechanisms in place. They had trained professionals on the job. They had invested heavily in protection. But the reality is that no amount of investment in preventative technologies can fully eliminate the threat of savvy attackers, malicious insiders, or inadvertent victims of phishing. Breaches are rising, and so are their cost. In 2018, the average cost of a data breach rose 6.4 percent to $3.86 million, and the cost of a “mega breach,” those defined as losing 1 million to 50 million records, carried especially punishing price tags between $40 million and $350 million.2 Despite increasing investment in security

2017 and 2018 were not easy years to be a CIO or CISO, and 2019 isn’t showing any signs of being easier. With so many career-ending-level data breaches in 2017 (e.g., Equifax, Uber, Yahoo, to name a few) and with the stronger regulatory requirements worldwide, CIOs/CISOs have a corporate responsibility to rethink their approach to data security. Regulatory compliance aside, companies have a responsibility to their customers and shareholders to protect data, and minimize its exposure not only to external attackers but also to employees. The most common method of data breach in 2017 was a phishing email sent to a company’s internal employees (See 2017 Data Breach Investigation Report), This makes employees unwillingly complicit in the data breach. Over 80% of successful cyberattacks have a critical human element that enabled them. The average employee who opens the innocent-looking attachment or link, is unintentionally jeopardizing a company’s data. While there is no 100% protection, th

ENDPOINT DATA. It’s often one of the most forgotten aspects of an enterprise data protection strategy. Yet, content on laptops, desktops and mobile devices is among a company’s most valuable data even while it’s potentially at the greatest risk. According to IDC there will be some 1.3 billion mobile workers by 2015. However, only half of enterprises today are using some type of endpoint backup. That means that the volume of endpoint data that is in jeopardy is nothing short of significant. Download to read the buyer's checklist on endpoint data protection!

Backup alone is not enough anymore. Businesses today must put a range of recoverability options in place. That’s why it is encouraging to see Carbonite, a data protection company with cloud and hybrid offerings, making fresh moves to help organizations evolve beyond legacy backup. Years ago, Carbonite pioneered cloud backup for endpoint devices. Then it expanded, buying EVault in 2015 and DoubleTake in 2017. Just as Carbonite has long been at the forefront of offering what people need from cloud-based data backup, it now appears to be just as intent on providing what IT organizations need—hybrid data protection media and mechanisms.

Web applications are often the most vulnerable part of a company’s infrastructure and yet are typically given direct paths to the internet, thus leaving these vulnerabilities exposed. IBM commissioned Tolly to evaluate IBM Security Access Manager for its Web protection effectiveness and performance as well as its identity federation, risk management and mobile one-time password capabilities. Tolly found that IBM Security Access Manager provided effective, high-performance threat protection while conveniently providing identity federation features and flexible risk-based access options.

Until recently, Manhattan Associates had used a traditional secondary storage solution to manage its large and rapidly expanding data footprint of ~1PB. Designed for traditional workflows, the company’s IT team realized it had become cost prohibitive to add features to their existing environment to support their VM level backups. Like most traditional storage options, the existing solution did not scale-out linearly, and complicated the environment by creating silos. With Cohesity’s scale-out architecture, the team was able to start small and grow their Cohesity environment on the go, yet keep it unified and simple. See how Manhanttan Associates achieved operational efficiency and lowered their TCO by supporting VM data protection, supporting native integration with the public cloud and providing simple converged solution for data protection, target storage and files. Everyone agrees that data is the lifeblood of any business. Just think how tense you get when your laptop crashes and you realize you have not saved that critical document. Or put yourself in the shoes of your company’s sales teams when they suddenly find themselves unable to access information related to a deal in the pipeline at the end of the quarter because it is corrupted or went missing because of a database or server issue. Data protection is—and always will be—a constant concern.

Your business relies on a Microsoft® infrastructure that stretches from your network to the cloud to endpoints located around the world. In many ways, the success of your business relies on how secure your Microsoft infrastructure is. Your users do not care where the applications and data reside; they only care about getting their job done. SharePoint®, Skype for Business, or Active Directory® deployed on the network, in Azure®, or as part of your Office 365® subscription should have no impact on the success of your business.

The public cloud has rapidly moved past the novelty, curiosity stage to the business critical initiative stage for nearly every established organization. In a 2016 IDC CloudView survey, 80% of the enterprises contacted were actively engaged in public-cloud projects. The driving forces are a realization that the public cloud is “enterprise ready” and the need to be more agile, more responsive and more competitive. For those organizations that already have an existing physical IT infrastructure, the common starting point is a hybrid approach, which extends the existing data center into Microsoft® Azure™.
